Student Leadership: A Hands-On Approach to Developing Student’s Sense of Purpose

Exploring Positive Active Global Citizenship Through Art

This workshop will explore how students have been able to find purpose by contributing to our world and be positive active global citizens using the universal language of art through the Memory Project. By facilitating the creation and delivery of heartfelt artwork made by children for children, the Memory Project strives to break cultural barriers, leave children with a unique childhood memory, inspire creativity, show children living in difficult situations that they are valued, and cultivate a kinder world. The goal of this project is to empower teachers and students in their pursuit of the same goals. This workshop will give inspirational and practical information that will enable teachers to become involved in this type of learning. Teachers will learn more about the Memory Project, the positive impact it has had on ASD students and children around the world, and how to become involved in the program.
What are Restorative Practices and Why Should you Care?

The term Restorative Practices seems to be suddenly everywhere in education. But what do we mean by Restorative Practices, and what do they look like in a school setting? This presentation introduces basic elements of restorative practices and how they can transform classroom practice. We will discuss the underlying philosophy of Restorative Work and offer practical implementation tools and strategies.
Habitudes: Leadership Habits and Attitudes

Habitudes are Images that Form Leadership Habits and Attitudes, created by Dr. Tim Elmore with the organization Growing Leaders. The more students can develop the social and emotional skills to both lead themselves and others, the more students will begin to understand their unique purpose and how to take initiative with their purpose. This session will explore one Habitude in depth, why Habitudes work, a few Habitudes overviews, the lesson structure of how to lead Habitudes with students, and resources.

What Exactly is a Maker Faire?

The American School of Doha (ASD) has been conducting a School Maker Faire for two years, with the 3rd annual Maker Faire coming in January of 2020. By going over what ASD has done, how they implemented it, and what kinds of activities they highlight, you will learn what a Maker Faire is, how to start one, and how to incorporate and highlight service clubs, but you will also learn how to get individuals, classrooms, parents, and your school community involved."
