Global Gathering LA: Schools of Purpose will be hosted at Oakwood School in North Hollywood, CA on November 8, 2019.
Join us for a full day packed with a mix of educator development experiences! We will explore Purpose Learning as a framework for the future of learning. Schools in the past have focused on thinking. Schools in the future will focus on learning as thinking, feeling, and doing all at the same time so that students can explore lives of purpose. This conference begins with a workshop that allows educators to explore and clarify their own purpose, so they can coach students to do the same. Following lunch, attendees can choose between a series of hourlong Explore sessions, where teachers from around LA share their work to bring greater purpose to learning. The 90-minute Deep Dive Workshops at the end of the day allow educators to choose between a more in-depth study of a particular area of Purpose Learning, such as advisory programs, community-based learning, etc. The conference closes with a networking session and cocktails.

This was the most impactful conference I have been to in my 16 years in education. I want to live in the world we dreamed together."

Global Citizenship through Student Action: Global Competencies and Purpose Learning
Chad Detloff | Director of Professional Learning and Curriculum | Global Education Benchmark Group
Local student action connected to global issues is key to both global competency-based education and purpose learning. Intentionally designing learning opportunities for this student action, with the optimum balance of guidance and student choice, is essential but often the last piece to fall in place for schools. How can we help students explore their purpose and empower them to develop the skills they need to take meaningful action in that exploration? Using data, research, and numerous school-based examples from the 250 GEBG-member schools (across 15 countries), this workshop will offer an overview of the most current research on global competencies, before going more in-depth on student action including student outcomes, curriculum design, and assessment.

Putting Purpose into Daily Practice
Dave Mochel | CEO/Coach/Consultant | Applied Attention Consulting
Identifying purpose is one thing, using attention and energy purposefully on a daily basis is quite another. We live in a demanding and distracting world that puts a premium on creating comfort and avoiding discomfort. This makes focusing on purpose a challenge. With practice, we can master the discipline of consistently re-orienting ourselves toward what really matters when we inevitably lose sight.

Purpose Clarification Workshop
Ross Wehner | Founder | World Leadership School
This half-day workshop creates a space for teachers to explore gifts and drop into story to arrive at a clearer conception of who they are and how they connect to the world. Teachers need to do the hard work of clarifying their own purpose before they can help students do the same. By communicating their purpose clearly, teachers will build trust, help students feel safe, and create an innovative learning environment. “Vulnerability is the birthplace of innovation” - Brené Brown
*Sessions will be announced as when they are confirmed.
